When Daycare Closes and You Suddenly Become a Toddler Lunch Chef

This week took an unexpected turn.

Our daycare closed — suddenly and without much warning — and like many parents in situations like this, I found myself scrambling. Calls, tours, waitlists, paperwork, emails… all while trying to keep life somewhat normal for my toddler.

The good news is that we found a new school and she starts on Monday.

The not-so-good news?

Today is Friday… and I just realized something I never had to think about before.

Most daycares don’t offer a lunch program.

Which means starting next week, I’m officially responsible for packing a lunch every single day for a very opinionated tiny human.

No pressure.

Now, I love cooking, but toddler lunches are a whole different game. They need to be quick, somewhat healthy, easy to pack, and most importantly — something a toddler will actually eat. Because if you know, you know… toddlers can go from loving something one day to acting like it’s poison the next.

So instead of stressing about it alone, I decided to turn it into something fun.

Welcome to my new little blog series:

The Little Lunchbox Chronicles

This series will be my real-life journey into the world of toddler lunches — the wins, the fails, the foods that come back untouched, and the ones that somehow disappear in five minutes.

I’ll be sharing:

• simple toddler lunch ideas

• easy recipes for busy parents

• lunchbox inspiration

• and the honest reality of feeding a toddler

I’m hoping this becomes a place where other parents can share ideas too, because right now I’m officially in trial-and-error mode.

My toddler starts her new school on Monday, which means I have exactly one weekend to figure out what goes in that lunchbox.

So if you’re a parent with toddler lunch wisdom…

send it my way.

And if nothing else, wish me luck.

I have a feeling I’m going to need it.
